Rheotek USA Viscometer Baths;
Manual and Automated Capillary Viscometers
ASTM D445
Rheotek USA is located in Crestwood Kentucky and is a subsdiary of Poulten Self and Lee (PSL) in the UK. PSL has developed an exciting new line of automated and semi-automated viscometers. Lazar Scientific is pleased to be representing this exciting new line in our midwest territory. There simply is not enough room to tell you about all of the product variations, but the links below will take you to descriptions of three very unique applications for these viscometers.
JetVisc: Automated low temperture viscometer for testing viscosity of Jet Fuel is fully compliant to ASTM D445. The viscometer performs all steps of the manual method without operator attendance once the sample is put in. Automatic cleaning takes place as the viscosity measurement is completed. This is a tremendous manpower savings over the manual method and much more stable and user friendly than other low temperature automatic methods for measuring the viscosity of jet fuel.
Biovis: Specially designed viscometer in manual, semi-automated and fully automated versions for viscosity of Biodiesel measurements. It is also well suited for other middle distillates such as regular petroleum based diesel. Also fully compliant with ASTM D445.
AV2 Automatic Viscometer: The AV2 uses a unique new method for measuring the viscosity of oils. It can be configured with one or two temperature controlled baths fpr new or used oils. It is also capable of reporting dynamic viscosity and density and includes an autosampler.

Glass Capillary Viscometers D445/D446
Poulten Selfe & Lee Ltd. manufactures a comprehensive range of calibrated precision glass capillary kinematic viscometers for both manual and automated use. These instruments are used in laboratories across the world and enjoy a high reputation for quality of workmanship and accuracy of calibration.
PSL viscometers are constructed from low-expansion borosilicate glass and the precision bore tubing used for the capillary section is held to a close tolerance of ±0.01mm.
Calibration is carried out in the PSL Calibration Laboratory which has shown that it meets the requirements of
ISO 17025, by independent UKAS accreditation.
The PSL Calibration Laboratory maintains its own primary viscosity scale, based upon the internationally agreed value of distilled water at 20°C of 1.0034mm²/s. Each calibration performed is one step away from this primary scale, producing very low uncertainties of measurement.
