Measuring foaming tendencies of engine oils using the air bath approach eliminates the time-consuming, inexact and difficult factors associated with the oxidative discoloration and disposal of hot bath oils especially with the new high temperature requirements of ASTM D6082.

The TFAB was designed with a Carousel rack for holding up to six 1000 ml Cylinders. With the rack positioned within the air bath, the unit is capable of testing two oil samples simultaneously.

With both heating and cooling capabilities, one TFAB bath can relatively quickly be used for operating the three foaming sequences of D892 and the high temperature test D6082. The TFAB also meets the requirements of the ILSAC GF-2 specification.
