Tannas Instrument Company
Instruments For Testing Automotive Lubricants
Tannas instruments have been designed to answer particular needs expressed by oil companies, OEMs and additive manufacturers for measuring properties critical to high quality lubricants. All instruments manufactured by Tannas are laboratory tested and certified prior to delivery to our customers. On-site installation and customer training is provided with each instrument and is conducted by a Tannas Certified Engineer. Many of our patented bench instruments are required for meeting several international specifications for lubricant testing.
Rotating Pressure Vessel Oxidation Test (RPVOT); Quantum™ Method
This non-liquid 'dry cylinder' D2272, RPVOT apparatus is the first innovative approach to the test in decades -- eliminates the mess and dangers of hot oil baths and reduces the number of parts for quick turn around and interchangeability between methods. Small, single-test, design permits multiple units to function independently dramatically increasing productivity. For product brochure click here
Scanning Brookfield Test (Gelation Index)
Determines whether and to what degree the oil in the sump will flow in adequate quantities to the oil pump. The lower the temperature at which this test reaches a critical value of viscosity, the more satisfactory the oil. Gelation Index is a measure of the severity of engine oil gelation at low temperature. For product brochure click here.
Tannas Foam Air Bath
Single bench-top air bath for running all four required foaming sequences (Sequence I, II, III of ASTM D892, and Sequence IV of D6082). A safe, efficient alternative to oil baths. For product brochure click here.
TEOST
A required test for passenger car engine oils (ILSAC GF-2, GF-3 and GF-4). Simulates the high-temperature mix of engine oil and combustion gases and measures the resistance an oil has to forming deposits. For product brochure click here.
Selby Noack Volatility Tester
A high-tech replacement for Noack equipment used to measure evaporation loss of lubricating oils without hazardous Woods metal heating and permitting collection of the volatilized material for further analysis. Only instrument capable of generating values for new Phosphorous Emission Index for passenger motor oils and Sulfur Emission Index for diesel engine oils. For product brochure click here.
Tannas Basic Rotary Viscometer
A more flexible and accurate alternative to kinematic viscosity measurements at low shear rates. Gives viscosity in centipoise directly comparable to rotational measurements at high shear rates. For product brochure click here.
Tapered Bearing Simulator Viscometer
A required test for passenger car engine oils (API SJ, SM, SAE J300, ASTM D4485, ILSAC GF-2, GF-3 and GF-4). Measures the high-temperature, high-shear viscosity of the oil as seen by the engine during operation according to ASTM D4683 and D6616. For product brochure click here.

Lovibond Colorimeters
Today companies throughout the world use Lovibond colorimeters in the analysis of products such as fuel oils, lubricants, white oils, waxes and petrochemicals. Over the years the Lovibond brand has become the hallmark for color measurement in refining industries, recognized by major international standardizing bodies, including the ASTM, ISO and IP, who quote their equipment in their specifications for color measurement.
Standards
These
CRMs are ideal for routine calibration of color measuring instruments,
verification of test data and ensuring good inter-laboratory or
inter-instrument correlation. ![]()
The range of liquid standards includes
AOCS-Tintometer, ASTM, Gardner, Lovibond RYBN, Pt-Co and Saybolt Color, the key
color scales applied to oils, fuels & chemicals.
They are supplied with full traceability to internationally recognized
standards, either UKAS to ISO 17025 (ASTM, Gardner & Saybolt Color) or the
ISO 9001 quality system (AOCS-Tintometer, Lovibond RYBN & Pt-Co Color).
Each standard comes
in a 500 ml bottle with a 12-month guarantee of color stability and full
certification including MSDS.

Lawler Manufacturing
Broad Range Of Petroleum Test Products
Featured Products
Cold Filter Plugging Point; (CFPP)
- The Automated Cold Filter Plugging Point Analyzer fully conforms to method ASTM D6371 & IP-309. The vacuum is controlled by a dip tube immersed in a water filled jar just as specified by the method.
- The vacuum is automatically applied at every degree as the sample cools and its aspiration and release time are recorded and plotted. Fiber optic light guides are used at the bottom and top of the pipette that detect the start of aspiration and its completion. The result is reported when the aspiration or release times exceed 60 seconds.
- A wide range of models is available with working temperature ranges from ambient to -70°C.
Automated Rust Prevention Characteristics Bath
The Lawler Model 397 series Rust Baths are specially designed to run ASTM D665 and NACE TM0172. There is provision for conditioning and testing four or six test samples. A micro controller based system controls temperature precisely to +/- 0.2'C. This system further controls all the automatic features as described below.
The test specimens are automatically lowered into samples at trigger temperature. At the appropriate time the water dose is injected into the test sample automatically. At the end of the pre-determined test time the test rods from the sample are automatically raised. Thus there is no operator involvement during duration of the test.
The sample stirrers may be lifted up to enable easy removal of the sample beakers. Time and temperature parameters and other operator interaction are performed through a highly intuitive touch panel. A high temperature limit and a float switch is provided for safety.

Julabo USA Temperature Control
JULABO North America is committed to being the leader in the Constant Temperature Circulator and Water Bath industry.
JULABO Refrigerated and Heating Circulators are suitable for temperature application to external systems with simultaneous operation in the bath tank. Models in different performance classes are available. The units provide high heating/cooling capacities to ensure rapid heat-up and cool-down times. With ‚Active Cooling Control‘to +200 °C (not on ED models). ‚FP‘ models offer proportional cooling control to ensure energy-saving performance and to reduce heat generation to the environment. Convenient cleaning of dust by removable venting grid. Some models have a handle or castors to allow easy transport. All models provide a drain port on the front for conveniently draining the bath fluid. Typical applications: Temperature applications to external, closed systems, such as for example photometers, refractometers, viscometers, etc. For simultaneous application to small objects in the circulator bath.

ThermoProbe Tank Measurement Devices and Lab Thermometers
Since ThermoProbe's formation in 1983, we have manufactured the highest quality specialized digital thermometers to serve the needs of petroleum inspectors, refineries, tank farms, pipeline facilities, rail and marine transport. Our gauging thermometers are constructed to withstand abusive field use, ensure consistently accurate measurement, and provide safe operation in flammable environments. In addition to those specialized instruments, we also now manufacture a compact and easy to read laboratory thermometer to use in place of mercury-glass thermometers.

Lemis Portable Density and Viscosity Testers
DM-300 Portable Density Meter
The operating principle is resonant method (vibration element) of measurement. It is based on the changing of frequency characteristics of the sensitive unit and resistance of the built-in temperature sensor in dependence of characteristics of the measured liquid.
Resonant tube technology implemented in DM-300 density meter achieves higher accuracy and stability of the measurements. Design of the device considerably simplifies sampling and sample preparing procedure.
Operator does not need any plastic syringes and other special laboratory glassware! Measuring chamber is especially designed for very viscous liquids. Cleaning procedure is shortened for more than 2 times comparing to similar class devices!
Portable Density Meters For LPG and LNG
Unique Laboratory Density Meter is a new development especially for liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) measuring. It is based on the resonant method of density measurement and uses a small sample volume. Obtained results are instantly converted to relative density (15ºC or 20ºC or 60º) in accordance with ASTM D1250 Tables. Reading on the LCD facilitate measuring process and eliminate potential human error.
